The heart and soul of McAlpine has to be its impressive network of trails, anchored by the McAlpine Creek Greenway. History buffs might appreciate knowing this was the very first public greenway in western Piedmont, North Carolina, dating back to 1978.

The park's 3-acre lake is a centerpiece, complete with a fishing pier where you can cast a line for channel catfish, largemouth bass, and bluegill. Just keep in mind the catch limits: six catfish and five bass (three of which need to be at least 14 inches long).
