Park Overview

Located in Durham, North Carolina, Campus Hills Park spans a generous 30.7 acres of public green space. The park wraps around the Irwin R. Holmes, Sr. Recreation Center, creating a hub for outdoor fun and community gatherings. With plenty of shady spots to escape the summer heat and ample parking throughout, you can find it's a hassle-free destination for your outdoor adventures.

Recreation Center

At the heart of the park stands the Irwin R. Holmes, Sr. Recreation Center, a community cornerstone that houses some great indoor amenities. Take a dip in the 25-yard indoor swimming pool where you can enjoy casual swimming, watch competitive swim meets, or join one of the budget-friendly aquatic exercise classes to get your heart pumping.

The recreation center also boasts a clean fitness center and offers various community classes, including yoga for those looking to find their zen. One thing we've noticed is the center's staff - they're friendly and helpful to visitors.

Athletic Facilities

Sports enthusiasts will find athletic fields, including a recently revamped baseball field with new lighting, water lines, and an irrigation system.

The park doesn't stop there - you'll find multipurpose fields and basketball courts that regularly draw local players looking for a good game. Thanks to field lighting, your pickup games or practice sessions can extend well into the evening hours.

Family Amenities

Looking for kid-friendly spots? Campus Hills Park includes a playground designed for children between 2-12 years old. It's on the smaller side and doesn't have swings, but it still offers a nice space for little ones to burn off energy.

The picnic areas come with tables and grills for outdoor meals. Planning a larger gathering? The park features a large pavilion and smaller shelters available for reservation. While these shelters are well-maintained, they aren't enormous, so plan accordingly for bigger groups.

The land that now makes up Campus Hills Park was originally purchased from the Inscoe family, who lent their name to the park in its early days.
