Located in Greensboro, North Carolina, Price Park spans 92 acres of urban wilderness that feels removed from city life. The park is home to a thriving ecosystem, including a meadowlark sanctuary and a charming butterfly garden that buzzes with activity during warmer months.

Winding trails meander through natural areas, great for when you need to clear your head or get your steps in. Regardless of whether you're up for a brisk jog or just want to amble along taking in the scenery, these paths accommodate all paces and purposes.

The bird and butterfly meadow features mowed paths that let you wander through grasslands without disturbing the local wildlife. Keep an eye out for the owl boxes scattered within the park - if you're lucky and patient, you might spot one of these wise birds keeping watch from above.

Trails and Accessibility

For a quick escape, try the one-mile loop trail - it provides a sense of being in a secluded forest despite its urban location. Most trails here won't challenge experienced hikers, with gentle terrain that's well-suited for casual outings.

Do watch your step though - some paths narrow in spots with tree roots playing peek-a-boo through the dirt. While most areas are well-marked, you might find yourself having to make educated guesses at some junctions where signs are sparse.

Facilities and Amenities

Price Park includes the Kathleen Clay Edwards Family Branch Library right on the grounds. You can check out a book and find a quiet spot under a tree to read it.

The library functions as both a book repository and a community space. Their "Read With Me" therapy dog sessions are particularly heartwarming. And yes, there are clean restrooms inside the library, conveniently located near where most trails begin.

When hunger strikes, you'll discover a picnic shelter and plenty of tables and benches scattered around the park. You can enjoy a meal surrounded by the sounds of birds and rustling leaves.

Special Features

There's an interesting greenhouse made from recycled plastic bottles - a project completed by local Girl Scouts. Inside the library, there's a section maintained by Master Gardeners where you can pick up free seeds to start your own green space at home.

Four-legged friends are welcome within the park as long as they're leashed. You'll discover dog waste stations with bags and trash cans along the way, making it easy to clean up after your pooch.

While there's no traditional playground with slides and swings, the open grassy areas provide plenty of space for kids to run wild and play as nature intended.

Conservation Efforts

Price Park isn't just pretty - it's purposeful. Since 2010, parts of the Meadowlark Sanctuary have undergone carefully controlled burns to establish and maintain a Piedmont Prairie habitat, an ecosystem that's becoming increasingly rare in our region.

This thoughtful approach to land management shows a real commitment to preserving native environments. The park also offers a unique glimpse into the past through its old-growth trees that have survived in the ravines - areas where historical timber harvesting proved too difficult, accidentally preserving these arboreal elders for visitors to appreciate today.
