About the Location
Park Overview
North Hills Park is a 32-acre community park located at 100 Chowan Circle in North Raleigh, North Carolina. Established in 1962, this park serves as a versatile recreational space for the surrounding neighborhood and broader community.
Athletic Facilities
One of the park's notable features is the recently converted pickleball courts. In 2023, two existing tennis courts were transformed into six dedicated pickleball courts, providing a second outdoor pickleball facility in the Raleigh Parks system.
This conversion was made possible through a generous donation from a local pickleball enthusiast, Marilyn Sorin.
The park also includes a lighted baseball field with bleacher seating for spectators and a water fountain near the far team's bench area. Adjacent to the field is a grassy hill that provides additional seating options for visitors.
Family Recreation
For families and children, the park offers a playground area with several connected jungle gyms. The playground features both a hard mulch base and a smaller sandy play area, catering to different preferences and age groups.
Accessibility and Connectivity
The park provides ample parking facilities, with a medium-sized lot near the baseball field and another parking area close to the pickleball courts and playground. A wide, paved sidewalk ensures easy access from the parking lot to various park amenities.
North Hills Park also connects to the local greenway system. Near the tennis courts, visitors can access the North Hills Segment of the Crabtree Creek Trail, a quarter-mile paved pathway that, while steeply sloped, offers opportunities for walking and jogging.
Historical Features
An interesting historical feature of the park is the presence of the Buffaloe family cemetery, located near the restroom facilities at the top of a grassy hill.
