Located in Winston-Salem, this neighborhood haven offers something for everyone, whether you're looking to burn off some energy or just enjoy a peaceful afternoon outdoors.

Kids will love the modern playground with its eye-catching red and blue equipment, including a swing set and jungle gym complete with a closed slide. The blue synthetic ground covering is a nice touch - soft enough for barefoot play and a welcome alternative to the woodchips that seem to find their way into every shoe.

On hot days, the splash pad is a popular attraction. It's right next to the playground, so little ones can easily dash between splashing and climbing. It's thoughtfully designed to be accessible for children of all abilities, which is something we really appreciate about this park.

Sports Central

If you're into sports, Hathaway offers a baseball/softball diamond and basketball courts. Fair warning: the asphalt basketball court has seen better days with some cracks showing its age. There are also tennis courts available if that's more your speed.

The open field space is meant for impromptu games - toss a frisbee, kick a soccer ball around, or just let the kids run wild for a while. Nothing fancy, just good old-fashioned outdoor fun.

Picnic Paradise

The large covered picnic shelter is a standout feature here. Equipped with plenty of tables and grills, it's ideal for everything from casual family lunches to birthday parties. If you're planning something special, you can reserve it through the Winston-Salem Recreation and Parks Department website.

Don't worry if the main shelter is taken - you'll find additional picnic tables scattered within the grounds, including a nicely shaded area at the back of the park. These quieter spots are fantastic for a more intimate outdoor meal or just sitting with a good book.

Natural Retreats

Beyond the structured activities, Hathaway offers green spaces and walking trails that provide a breath of fresh air from city life. The park strikes a nice balance between active recreation areas and more peaceful natural spaces.

The park's neighborhood setting creates a calm atmosphere that locals clearly appreciate. There's even an unofficial dog social hour that happens most days between 4-6pm, where pet owners gather on benches to chat while their furry friends play together.

Unique Touches

One thing that sets Hathaway apart is the pet memorial located in one of the parking lots. Managed by a local nonprofit, it's a touching spot that resonates with anyone who's ever loved a pet.

The thoughtful layout of the park makes it especially family-friendly - parents can easily keep an eye on the kids from the picnic shelter since the play areas are just 50 feet away. Many families gather here, likely due to this convenient layout.

Good to Know

You'll find public restrooms and water fountains available on-site (always a plus when spending the day outdoors). There are two parking lots, but be prepared for slightly rough surfaces.

The park welcomes visitors daily from 6AM to 10:30PM.
