About the Location
Trail Overview
In Fargo you'll find the Iwen South Bike Trail, a 2.0-mile continuous loop that connects to a broader network of mountain biking paths. The trail takes you through the diverse landscapes of Iwen Park, a favorite spot for many local riders. The trails are maintained throughout the season by volunteers from FMTB (Fargo-Moorhead Trail Builders).
Technical Features
Feeling adventurous? Test your wheels on the engineered rock garden that's been specifically designed to help you level up your technical riding game. Don't worry if you're just starting out or prefer to keep things simple - there's a handy roll-around route that makes this trail welcoming for riders of all abilities. The trail layout provides good opportunities to work on turning techniques while maintaining momentum throughout the ride.
Natural Environment
The trail winds through a mix of wooded areas and prairie landscapes typical of the Red River Valley. While Fargo's characteristic flat terrain forms the foundation, the added technical features bring just enough challenge to keep things interesting. The wooded sections offer a sense of seclusion that makes it easy to forget you're still in the city.
Water Features
Iwen Park offers more than trails - you'll also find access to water where you can try your luck at fishing, especially under the bridge area where catches tend to be good. Planning a day on the water? There's also a convenient boat launch available for your aquatic adventures.
Conservation Efforts
The park is part of the Urban Woods & Prairie Initiative - a collaboration between the Fargo Park District and Audubon Dakota. This project aims to create natural habitats within urban areas, balancing recreational opportunities with meaningful wildlife conservation. It's nice knowing your bike ride supports a greater environmental purpose.
Additional Activities
Not in a biking mood? No problem. Iwen Park also features a disc golf course and peaceful walking trails to enjoy. These diverse options make it a go-to spot for outdoor enthusiasts looking to mix up their recreation routine in the Fargo area.
