Patterson Park is located in Akron's North Hill neighborhood, serving as a popular local green space. This multi-acre park along Patterson Avenue isn't just a patch of grass - it's where locals come to play, connect, and recharge.

The Heart of the Park

The Patterson Park Community Center is the park's central facility, with programs for everyone from toddlers to seniors. It's been the backdrop for countless neighborhood gatherings over the years, with staff who typically do their best to help out during community events.

Fresh Changes Coming

Exciting news arrived in October 2023 when Akron broke ground on a substantial renovation project for the community center. The upgrades are long overdue, as many locals have pointed out.

When completed, the revamped center will include new meeting rooms, a multipurpose room, a game room, and an art/gardening room. The plans don't stop indoors - a new outdoor playground is also in the works, giving the neighborhood kids something to look forward to.

Get Active Outdoors

If you're feeling energetic, head to the basketball courts or tennis courts for a quick game. The park grounds offer plenty of space to move, whether you're shooting hoops or practicing your backhand.

The picnic areas feature 2-4 tables scattered across the grounds - great for family gatherings or casual meetups over food. While the current setup works for basics, the park could definitely use more kid-friendly options (something the renovation will hopefully address).

Play and Relax

The current playground has served generations of Akron kids - though with its older equipment and wood chip padding, it's showing its age. Good thing those renovations are coming!

Throughout the park, you can find community gardens and open grassy areas that transform into whatever you need them to be - a spot for an impromptu soccer game, a place to fly kites, or just somewhere to spread out a blanket and enjoy the day.

Good to Know

When nature calls, indoor restrooms are available whenever the community center is open. For outdoor events, especially near the splash pad, you'll find portable toilets - though during busy times, these can use more frequent attention.

The park offers generous hours, making it accessible for early birds and evening visitors alike - a true neighborhood space that's there when you need it.
