About the Location
History and Origins
Reservoir Park is a public recreational area located in the Goodyear Heights neighborhood of Akron, Ohio. The park was established in the 1930s on land that was previously considered a "wasteland" surrounding the Akron City Reservoir, which was built in 1913 to replace overburdened wells in the area.
Community Center
The park features a community center that was originally constructed in 1933 as a playground building. In 1990, an 1,800 square foot addition was made to include a kitchen and community room.
Recreational Facilities
Reservoir Park has a swimming pool and bathhouse, which were originally built in 1968. The park has been a central gathering place for the community for decades, hosting various youth sports programs, summer recreation activities, and community events.
The Namesake Reservoir
The park's namesake reservoir holds 20 million gallons of drinking water and remains an active part of Akron's water supply system.
Ongoing Renovations
As of 2024, a major renovation project is underway to completely redo the pool and partially demolish, expand, and renovate the community center. The new pool will feature modern amenities, while the community center will see significant improvements to better serve the neighborhood's needs.
Reservoir Park continues to be an important recreational and social hub for residents of Goodyear Heights and the surrounding areas, offering a mix of outdoor spaces and community facilities.
