Overview

Perched in Cincinnati's Mount Lookout neighborhood, Ault Park sprawls across nearly 224 acres as the city's fourth-largest green space. This hilltop location offers panoramic views of the Little Miami River valley and beautiful sunsets over the Cincinnati skyline.

The park has been a Cincinnati treasure since 1911, named after Levi Addison Ault and his wife Ida May. Levi wasn't just a name on a plaque - he played a crucial role in developing the park system that Cincinnati residents enjoy today.

Historic Pavilion and Gardens

The heart of Ault Park is its pavilion, a 1930s Italian Renaissance structure that represents the city's architectural heritage. This isn't just a pretty building - it's where life happens, hosting everything from teary-eyed weddings to lively community gatherings.

Step down from the pavilion and you'll discover a cascade fountain flowing into formal gardens with a variety of well-maintained plants. Originally envisioned by George Kessler and later refined by A. D. Taylor, These gardens function as both visual displays and educational spaces, with plants labeled to help visitors identify different species.

Trails and Natural Areas

Need to clear your head? Ault Park's network of hiking trails ranges from leisurely strolls to more challenging routes. The Valley Trail even connects to the Wasson Bike and Hike Trail, opening up miles of exploration. Walking through the wooded sections, you might forget you're still within city limits - the urban hustle feels worlds away.

The varied terrain makes for an interesting walk, run, or hike. With steps, bridges, and enough elevation changes to feel in your calves the next day, these trails offer both serenity and a solid workout.

Recreational Opportunities

Kids have plenty of room to burn energy at the park's playground, complete with swings, slides, and climbing equipment for various ages. The marble slide is a hit with children and the young-at-heart alike - who says playgrounds are just for kids?

Throughout Ault Park, you'll find picnic areas ready for your basket lunch, sprawling grassy fields well-suited for a lazy afternoon, and plenty of open space for tossing a frisbee. There's also a soccer field and outdoor fitness equipment if you're looking to break a sweat in the fresh air.

Beautiful Gardens

If you're timing your visit, the cherry blossom groves put on an unforgettable show in March and April. When these trees burst into pink and white blooms, they create a magical canopy that draws nature enthusiasts and photographers from all over.

The park's botanical offerings don't stop there. The rose garden peaks in summer with vibrant colors and heady scents, while the butterfly garden buzzes with winged visitors. Thanks to the Adopt-A-Garden program, these spaces remain vibrant through changing seasons, giving you a different experience with each visit.

Special Events

Ault Park knows how to throw a party. The 4th of July celebration lights up the night with one of the area's best fireworks displays. Car enthusiasts flock to the Ault Park Concours d'Elegance, where vintage and exotic automobiles gleam in the sun. On summer evenings, the summer concert series fills the air with music from local talent, creating an ideal backdrop for a picnic dinner.

Dog-Friendly Environment

Four-legged family members are welcome at Ault Park, making it a favorite for dog walks along the trails and open spaces. While your pup needs to stay leashed, there's plenty of ground to cover together. Just note that some garden areas do have pet restrictions, so keep an eye out for signs before letting Fido sniff the flowers.
