About the Location

A Park with Purpose

Positioned in Cincinnati's landscape, Veterans Park spans a generous 13.1 acres that invite you to relax, play, and remember. Originally established in 1978 as Forest Park, it found its true identity in 1997 when it was rededicated as Veterans Park to honor Anderson residents who served in the armed forces.

What makes this space special isn't just its greenery, but its commitment to preserving memory through thoughtful memorials that offer quiet moments of reflection for those who visit.

Honoring Those Who Served

As you enter the park, you'll immediately notice the veterans memorials honoring service and sacrifice. An impressive military tank commands attention near the entrance, while a solemn bell tower invites moments of reflection.

These monuments tell stories and provide history lessons about the human cost of freedom, carefully maintained to honor those who served.

A Playground for Everyone

The "Lucky Lanier All-Children's Playground" embodies what community spaces should be: welcoming to all. This thoughtfully designed playground breaks down barriers, allowing children of all abilities to play side by side on the same equipment.

Kids light up at the modern slides, swings, and jungle gym structures set on a forgiving blue turf surface. Parents and caregivers can take a breather on the nearby seating while keeping watchful eyes on their little adventurers.

Get Moving

Feeling like stretching your legs? The 0.5-mile paved walking/jogging trail loops around the park, offering both paved and gravel sections for whatever pace suits your mood.

For those seeking a more immersive experience, a separate nature trail winds through wooded areas, providing a quiet retreat from urban life where you can reconnect with nature.

Fitness enthusiasts will appreciate the five Parcourse FitCircuit stations positioned along the main trail. The recently updated equipment offers everything from knee lifts to chin-ups, sit-ups, push-ups, and bench dips - essentially an outdoor gym with fresh air thrown in for free.

Game On

Sports fans haven't been forgotten. The park features a ball diamond, soccer fields, a basketball court with glass backboards, and racquetball courts that host everything from casual games to organized youth sporting events.

These facilities are used for both casual games and organized youth sporting events throughout the year.

Gather and Celebrate

Need space for a family reunion or birthday celebration? Two reservable shelters await. The larger shelter near the playground accommodates up to 80 people and comes equipped with picnic tables, electrical outlets, lights, and a grill - practically everything except the food itself.

For more intimate gatherings, the smaller shelter at the back of the park seats 16 and features a fire ring that's meant for scout troops or small get-togethers where stories around a fire make the best memories.

The Practical Stuff

You'll find clean, well-maintained restrooms open year-round (though one may close during particularly harsh winter weather). The men's restroom even features extra heaters when the temperature drops - a small but appreciated touch of comfort.

Handicap parking spots at the top of the park ensure accessibility, while paved paths throughout make navigation easier for visitors with mobility challenges.

Four-Legged Friends Welcome

Dog owners, rejoice! While there's no official dog park, Veterans Park has become a favorite among the canine crowd. The walking paths - especially the nature trail winding through wooded areas - offer plenty of interesting smells and sights for curious pups.

Over time, a friendly community of dog walkers has emerged, making this park as much about the social connections between pets and their people as it is about the exercise.
