About the Location
Park Overview
Nestled in the southeast corner of Hamilton County, Ohio, Woodland Mound spans an impressive 1,066 acres of natural beauty. It's part of the Great Parks of Hamilton County system and offers beautiful views of the Ohio River Valley - the vista from Breezy Point Pavilion is especially worth seeking out. Just be aware that you'll need a parking permit to enter ($5-8 daily or $10-16 annually, depending on whether you're a local or not).
Trails and Natural Features
If you're looking to stretch your legs, Woodland Mound offers several trail options. There's a 1.2-mile paved shared-use trail that's excellent for a casual stroll, a 1-mile fitness trail for those looking to get their heart rate up, and two nature trails - the 0.7-mile Hedgeapple Trail and the 0.8-mile Seasongood Trail.
These paths meander through second-growth forests, offering plenty of chances to connect with nature. Keep your eyes peeled for local birds and seasonal wildflowers along the way. The sunset views over the Ohio River from the overlook spots are particularly impressive.
Dog owners will be happy to know that four-legged friends are welcome on leashes. Just a heads-up though - during tick season, those back trails can be pretty tick-heavy, so check yourself and your pup afterward.
Nature Center
The Seasongood Nature Center is a real spot within the park. This three-story building houses fascinating wildlife exhibits and runs various nature programs year-round. The outdoor observation deck and wild bird viewing area are great for wildlife enthusiasts.
Kids especially love the educational activities inside, and there's a nice little gift shop stocked with nature resources. The live animal exhibits featuring a turtle, snake, tarantula, and rabbit are always a hit. You can even borrow binoculars for birdwatching while relaxing in their comfortable seating areas.
Recreational Amenities
Frisbee fans, take note - the park's 18-hole disc golf course has recently had a makeover with new baskets and concrete tee pads. It's particularly welcoming for beginners and casual players but still has enough technical elements to keep things interesting.
For families, Parky's Wetland Adventure is a summer highlight. This wet playground costs $6.75 per child (ages 2-12) and features a 16-foot tree with two waterslides, plus various water play elements themed around wetland creatures. On hot days, it's an ideal cool-down spot.
Beyond these highlights, you'll come across several updated traditional playgrounds, an outdoor fitness course, and plenty of picnic areas complete with tables and grills. If you're planning a gathering, there are several picnic shelters you can reserve in advance.
Water enthusiasts can access the Ohio River via the park's boat launch ramp, and there's also a fishing pond if you'd prefer a more relaxed angling experience.
Amenities and Services
You can find clean, well-maintained restrooms throughout Woodland Mound - always a plus for a day outdoors. During summer months, there's a snack bar/concession stand operating near the splash pad area when hunger strikes.
The park is thoughtfully equipped with trash receptacles, drinking fountains, and even some water stations for dogs. Many areas are accessible via paved paths suitable for strollers and wheelchairs, making this natural retreat available for visitors of all mobility levels.
