A Waterfront Spot

From this 4.5-acre park at the north end of East Ninth Street Pier in downtown Cleveland, you get pulled in two directions at once - out toward Lake Erie on one side and back toward the Cleveland skyline on the other. The views from here are genuinely excellent, and the park is set up to take advantage of both.

The heart of the park is a beautifully terraced green lawn surrounded by paved walkways. This open space invites you to spread out a blanket, toss a frisbee, or simply find a spot to relax. The elevated areas provide good angles for viewing both the lake and the city skyline.

What's There to Do?

In the southwest corner, you'll discover a well-designed concrete stage where summer comes alive with performances and community gatherings. The terraced lawn creates a natural amphitheater vibe, so you can kick back on the grass and enjoy whatever show is happening that day.

Since 2016, the park has boasted sand volleyball courts that open from May through October. If you're feeling competitive, league games happen on weekday evenings, but during the day and on weekends, the courts are yours to enjoy on a first-come basis. Nothing quite like digging your toes in the sand while the lake breeze keeps you cool.

Not into volleyball? Try your hand at bocce instead! Two bocce ball courts were added in 2018, available during the same May-October season. It's a surprisingly addictive game that's great for a lazy afternoon by the water.

And yes, there are public restrooms near the volleyball courts - a small but crucial detail that makes longer visits much more pleasant.

Seasonal Highlights

The park really shines as an event space throughout the warmer months. From outdoor concerts and movie nights to symphony performances under the stars, there's always something happening. The annual Reggae Festival is particularly popular, bringing Caribbean vibes to the Lake Erie shore. Just note that some events might have admission fees.

One of the park's most photographed features is the script Cleveland sign installed along the southern edge. It's become something of a ritual for visitors to snap a picture here, with a fantastic backdrop of water and skyline completing the frame.

If you're the patient type, grab a fishing rod and try your luck in the designated areas along the shoreline. Or simply time your visit for sunset - the golden light spilling across the lake creates a moment of calm that's worth experiencing. Many people also enjoy the simple pleasure of watching planes coming and going from the nearby lakefront airport.

Good to Know

Four-legged friends are welcome here, making it an excellent spot to walk your dog while you both enjoy the refreshing lake atmosphere.

The paved walking paths around the park are well-maintained and great for a leisurely waterfront stroll at any pace.

Hungry? During special events, food trucks line up to offer tasty options. There's also a Mexican restaurant right next to the park when you're ready to sit down for a proper meal after exploring.
