About the Location
The Story Behind the Park
Nestled at the intersection of Random and Mayfield Roads in Cleveland's Little Italy neighborhood, Tony Brush Park offers a peaceful green retreat with a rich local history. Dedicated in 1993, the park honors Anthony Brescia - affectionately known as Tony Brush - who was not just a champion boxer, but a popular Little Italy resident who made his mark on the community.
What's interesting is that this wasn't always Tony Brush Park. The space was previously a baseball field and playground called Random Road Park (dedicated in 1972). The transformation into its current form actually fulfilled Tony's own vision, as he had been one of the first presidents of the Mayfield-Murray Hill District Council and had long advocated for creating a recreational space right here.
What You'll Find There
The park offers something for everyone. Families with young kids gravitate toward the playground with its swings and slides - the open layout makes it easy to keep an eye on little ones while they burn off energy.
If you're feeling active, check out the baseball field or shoot some hoops at the basketball court. For more relaxed visits, you can claim one of the three picnic areas scattered across the grounds. The generous open grassy areas are well-suited for throwing a frisbee, having a picnic lunch, or taking your four-legged friend for a leisurely stroll.
Part of the Neighborhood
There's something special about how this park connects to the broader community. It occasionally hosts the Little Italy Artisan & Farmers Market, bringing local vendors and neighbors together in a celebration of local goods and culture.
What's nice about Tony Brush Park is its location - right in the heart of Little Italy, yet offering a quiet escape from the bustle. When you're done relaxing in the park, you're just steps away from some of the neighborhood's fantastic restaurants and cultural spots.
The park stays impressively clean, rarely feels crowded, and welcomes everyone regardless of age. Its design combines elements of Little Italy's history with modern recreational facilities for the community.
