About the Location
Park Overview
Set in the Northeast area of Columbus, Ohio, Mock Park spans 24.474 acres of community green space. Since 1959, this green space has been a popular spot for locals looking to escape the city bustle without actually leaving the city. The park welcomes visitors daily from 7AM to 11PM - plenty of time to soak in some nature or get your outdoor fix.
Natural Features
A notable feature of Mock Park is its direct access to the Mock Nature Preserve, an 82.81-acre protected area right next door. You can experience both spaces in a single visit.
The park features wooded areas and a scenic ravine that adds a touch of wilderness to your urban park experience. If you're lucky, you might spot some of the local wildlife - raccoons and deer have been known to make appearances, reminding us that we're sharing this space with our furry neighbors.
Recreational Facilities
Whether you're a sports enthusiast or just looking to stretch your legs, Mock Park offers several options. Athletic fields and courts are scattered throughout, excellent for both organized games and impromptu play sessions.
Need to get your steps in? The park features a 0.6-mile paved path that loops around a large open field. It's ideal for morning jogs, afternoon walks, or teaching the little ones how to ride a bike without worrying about traffic.
Basketball fans will appreciate the two half-court basketball areas positioned back-to-back, while tennis enthusiasts can serve and volley on the well-maintained courts. These areas are nicely lit for evening games, so your fun doesn't have to end when the sun goes down.
Amenities
Kids will love the recently updated playground area, which caters to both toddlers and older children. Just a heads up - after a good rain, some areas might be a bit soggy, so maybe pack an extra pair of socks just in case.
Planning a gathering? The park's covered shelter house offers multiple picnic tables arranged in groups of four, providing a wonderful spot for family reunions, birthday parties, or just a weekend picnic with friends. Community volunteers help keep this area in tip-top shape, and it's spacious enough to host events with up to 100 people.
When nature calls, you'll find porta-potties near the picnic area, including one that's wheelchair accessible. The park is also well-equipped with trash bins throughout, and there are dog waste bags available - because being a responsible pet owner never goes out of style.
Future Developments
Exciting news for pickleball enthusiasts! Plans are underway to add ten new pickleball courts to Mock Park. These courts will be housed in a covered structure called The Mock Park Pickleball Facility, adding yet another reason to visit this versatile community space.
