About the Location
A Riverside Escape
Found in Columbus' Clintonville neighborhood, Northmoor Park spans just over 9 acres along the banks of the Olentangy River. This modest green space might not be the city's largest park, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in accessibility and natural charm. It connects to the Olentangy Trail, which provides access to the larger Whetstone Park nearby.
The park blends natural landscapes with recreational opportunities in a way that feels effortless. Its wooded areas and wildlife habitats let you reconnect with nature without leaving the city behind. With open spaces stretching along the riverfront, it has a natural quality that can make you forget you're still in Columbus.
River Access & Water Fun
One of Northmoor's standout features is its relationship with the Olentangy River. The waterfront setting not only provides scenic views but opens up possibilities for river recreation that many city parks can't offer.
The boat launch facility is particularly useful for water enthusiasts. Kayakers particularly appreciate the well-maintained path that leads about 25 yards from the parking lot right to the river's edge. If you're planning a paddling trip from Worthington, this spot makes an excellent stopping point, especially when water levels are medium to high.
Connected to Columbus
Northmoor Park isn't just a destination - it's a connector. As a trailhead for the Olentangy Trail, it plays a crucial role in Columbus' greenway system.
Many cyclists, runners, and walkers use the park as a starting point or a welcome rest stop along their journey. Beyond the main trail, there's a scenic nature path that runs parallel, offering uninterrupted views of the flowing river and lush vegetation. It's a bit more intimate than the main trail and worth exploring if you have the time.
What to Expect
The park keeps things simple with its amenities. You'll come across a decent-sized parking lot that fits 25-30 cars and several picnic tables scattered throughout the green spaces between trails. The paved paths make for easy walking, jogging, or casual biking regardless of your fitness level.
Bring your four-legged friends along - they're welcome on the trails and open areas. You'll find trash bins around the park to keep things tidy. Note that there aren't currently any restroom facilities available, so plan accordingly.
Community Treasure
Northmoor Park serves the Clintonville residents and Columbus visitors as a neighborhood green space. It offers a mix of natural beauty and recreational accessibility. Old-timers might remember the fishing dock that once stood here - a feature that's still missed by some long-time visitors who recall casting lines from its planks.
