Tucked away in the Old North Dayton neighborhood, Kanak Park (formally named Joseph R. Kanak Park) honors a man who was deeply involved in community work. Dedicated in spring 2007, the park honors Joseph R. Kanak, a passionate volunteer whose heart belonged to Old North Dayton.

Kanak wasn't just a resident - he was a catalyst for positive change, helping establish both the Old North Dayton Neighborhood Association and the Old North Dayton Development Corporation. For many years, he guided the community as Chairman of the Northeast Priority Board, leaving an indelible mark on the neighborhood he loved.
