About the Location
Riverside Retreat
Nestled along the banks of the Stillwater River, DeWeese Park offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of Dayton life. Part of the charming DeWeese-Ridgecrest neighborhood, this green oasis has been enhancing the area's natural beauty since 1929, when Evelyn DeWeese gifted two parcels of land to the City of Dayton with one simple condition - that it forever remain a park for everyone to enjoy.
What You'll Find
Winding walking trails meander through wooded areas and alongside the river, great for a morning jog or an afternoon stroll. History buffs will appreciate the Battery D Memorial Bridge spanning the Stillwater at Ridge Avenue - a thoughtful tribute to a World War I military unit that adds a touch of historical significance to your visit.
The paved trails here aren't isolated - they connect seamlessly to the broader Riverwalk system, making DeWeese an ideal jumping-off point if you're in the mood for a longer adventure on foot or by bike. With mature trees providing ample shade, you'll discover the atmosphere remarkably serene - a true urban sanctuary.
Things to Do
DeWeese Park forms part of a larger green corridor that gives the neighborhood its pastoral charm. The natural setting creates an ideal backdrop for a variety of outdoor activities or simply finding a quiet spot to read or reflect.
Dog owners particularly appreciate the trails here, so don't be surprised if you encounter plenty of four-legged friends during your visit. While the park itself doesn't have designated playground equipment, families with kids can find playgrounds at nearby parks if the little ones need to burn off some energy.
Good to Know
You can find a restroom facility conveniently located next to the tennis courts, however keep in mind availability may change with the seasons. There aren't formal picnic shelters within the park boundaries, but plenty of open grassy areas welcome impromptu picnics and casual gatherings.
The park welcomes visitors daily from 7AM to 9PM, with parking available on-site for easy access.
