Near the shelter, visitors will find two sand volleyball courts, three tennis courts (two of which are also lined for pickleball), and a playground with all-access equipment.
To the north, separated by a line of trees, lies an open field area that houses four baseball diamonds, soccer fields, and football practice areas.
Natural Features
For those seeking a more nature-oriented experience, Yankee Park features a wooded area in the southeast quadrant with a nature trail winding through it.
The park's borders along the north and east are lined with flowering crab apple trees, adding seasonal color and beauty to the landscape.
Paths and Trails
A paved path encircles the park's perimeter, providing an opportunity for walking, jogging, or cycling. The total length of this path, including the sidewalk along Yankee Street, is 0.82 miles.
An additional center path measuring 0.19 miles offers another route for park-goers.
Park History
Yankee Park's history dates back to 1964 when the Park District purchased the initial 18-acre parcel that forms the southern portion of today's park.
Over the years, additional land acquisitions expanded the park to its current 36.679 acres, with the most recent addition occurring in 1969.
Visitor Information
The park is open from 7AM-9PM daily and welcomes leashed pets, provided they are controlled and kept on a visible leash no longer than eight feet.
