About the Location

A Piece of Toledo's Past

Nestled along Broadway Street in Toledo, Ohio, Danny Thomas Park offers a 4.9-acre green haven amid the city bustle. What's interesting is that this peaceful spot was once Toledo's first waterworks back in 1873. Today, it's transformed into a community gathering place where locals come to play, relax, and connect.

Game On!

The park got a major upgrade in 2019 with the addition of a synthetic turf field perched atop a hill. This versatile space hosts everything from football and soccer to baseball and softball games. The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation helped create this youth-focused facility as their 90th Youth Development Park project. If you visit on a weekend, you'll likely catch a local softball game in progress as teams take advantage of this quality playing surface.

Fresh Additions

2021 brought even more improvements to this neighborhood favorite. The park now boasts a full-size basketball court where pickup games regularly unfold, an inviting entry plaza with connecting paths, and a shelter with picnic area great for family gatherings. Kids particularly enjoy the four-square play area and the outdoor musical instruments that add a unique, interactive element to the park experience.

Something for Everyone

Little ones can burn off energy at the playground area, but you might notice some equipment showing signs of age. When you need a moment of peace, the paved paths winding through the grounds make for a pleasant stroll to clear your head. The park's open design creates plenty of space for community events that bring neighbors together throughout the year.

A Famous Connection

There's a bit of star power behind the park's name - it honors Danny Thomas, the celebrated American comedian, actor, and philanthropist who was born right here in Toledo. In a special moment for the community, Thomas himself attended the park's dedication ceremony in 1957 and spoke to the crowd gathered to celebrate this neighborhood resource.

Good to Know

If nature calls during your visit, be aware that the park only offers portable toilets rather than permanent restrooms. And if you're planning to catch a game or event, you might want to arrive early - parking can fill up quickly when sporting events are underway.
