What's interesting is that this peaceful spot was once Toledo's first waterworks back in 1873. Today, it's transformed into a community gathering place where locals come to play, relax, and connect.

The park got a major upgrade in 2019 with the addition of a synthetic turf field perched atop a hill. This versatile space hosts everything from football and soccer to baseball and softball games. The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation helped create this youth-focused facility as their 90th Youth Development Park project. If you visit on a weekend, you'll likely catch a local softball game in progress as teams take advantage of this quality playing surface.

Fresh Additions

2021 brought even more improvements to this neighborhood favorite. The park now boasts a full-size basketball court where pickup games regularly unfold, an inviting entry plaza with connecting paths, and a shelter with picnic area great for family gatherings. Kids particularly enjoy the four-square play area and the outdoor musical instruments that add a unique, interactive element to the park experience.

A Famous Connection

There's a bit of star power behind the park's name - it honors Danny Thomas, the celebrated American comedian, actor, and philanthropist who was born right here in Toledo. In a special moment for the community, Thomas himself attended the park's dedication ceremony in 1957 and spoke to the crowd gathered to celebrate this neighborhood resource.
