Sports Facilities
In 2019, the park underwent significant improvements with the addition of a synthetic turf field. This multi-purpose field can accommodate various sports including football, soccer, baseball, and softball. The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation was instrumental in developing this youth-oriented facility, which marked their 90th Youth Development Park project.
Recent Enhancements
Further enhancements to Danny Thomas Park were approved in 2021. These improvements included the installation of a new full-size basketball court, an entry plaza with a connecting path, a shelter with a picnic area, and a four-square play area. The park also features outdoor musical instruments, adding an interactive and creative element to the recreational offerings.
Notable Namesake
The park holds historical significance, as it is named after Danny Thomas, a renowned American comedian, actor, and philanthropist who was born in Toledo. In 1957, a dedication ceremony was held for the park, during which Danny Thomas himself was present and addressed the gathered crowd.
