About the Location
A Peaceful Neighborhood Haven
Tucked away in the Cedar Lane addition of Norman, Oklahoma, Songbird Park stretches across 4.2 acres of tranquil green space. Having just opened its gates in late 2019, it's one of the fresher faces in Norman's park family. There's a calming quality to this space - its secluded atmosphere offers a quiet retreat from the daily grind.
Take a Stroll
The park features inviting walking trails that meander through the grounds, great for a leisurely walk while soaking in some fresh air. Bringing your four-legged friend along? No problem - the trails are completely pet-friendly, and you can find trash bins and pet waste bags stationed conveniently within the park.
The landscape is dotted with 49 young trees that, while still maturing, will eventually provide more shade throughout the park. A small pond adds a touch of serenity to your walk.
Play and Recreation
The park includes a modern playground area for children. The playground features a shade structure to protect from the summer sun. Instead of dealing with woodchips that inevitably find their way into shoes and socks, the playground boasts turf surfacing that's both cleaner and more accessible.
The play equipment offers plenty of options to keep young ones entertained, including swings that sit higher than you might typically find elsewhere. Importantly, the playground includes an accessible swing designed specifically for children with disabilities - a thoughtful touch that makes the park more inclusive.
For those craving more active recreation, the basketball court provides a space to shoot some hoops, while a practice area with soccer goals invites impromptu games and skill-building sessions.
Places to Unwind
When it's time to take a breather, head to the park's charming gazebo. This sheltered spot features built-in bench seating around its perimeter, making it ideal for small gatherings - some locals have even chosen this intimate setting for their wedding ceremonies.
Around the grounds, you'll discover various seating options to rest and take in the surroundings. While there aren't dedicated picnic tables, many visitors simply bring along portable chairs or blankets for longer stays.
Good to Know
Songbird Park stays open 24 hours daily, giving you flexibility for early morning jogs or evening strolls under the stars. One thing to note before planning an extended visit: the park doesn't have public restrooms, so you might want to plan accordingly.
With its thoughtful balance of recreational facilities and natural spaces, Songbird Park creates a versatile outdoor retreat that works just as well for an active afternoon as it does for a moment of quiet reflection.
