About the Location
A Park With Deep Roots
Back in 1909, Frank Trosper made the city an offer they couldn't refuse: discounted land for a southeast park, with just one condition - it had to bear his name. And so, Trosper Park was born.
At first, the land remained wild and served mainly as a boy scout campground. But as the years rolled by, this diamond in the rough gradually transformed into the multi-faceted park we know today.
Nature's Sanctuary
Tuck away your urban worries when you step into Trosper Park's blend of wooded areas and open spaces. The landscape is dotted with creeks and ponds that add a touch of serenity to your visit.
Feel like stretching your legs? The park's walking trails meander through the grounds, offering both exercise and moments to connect with nature. These paths take you under the canopy of mature oak trees, providing welcome shade even when Oklahoma's summer sun is showing off.
Tee Time
Since 1927, the park's 18-hole golf course has been a staple for local golfers. The Trosper Golf Club welcomes players with its forgiving layout - those expansive putting greens and generous landing areas make the game enjoyable rather than frustrating.
Stretching about 6,600 yards, the course maintains impressive conditions all year long. The quality of the greens and the welcoming staff consistently earn high marks from those who play here.
Flying Discs
If traditional golf isn't your thing, perhaps the 18-hole disc golf course might be more your speed. Weaving through wooded sections of the park, this course challenges players with technical shots, tight corridors, and elevation changes that keep things interesting regardless of your skill level.
The course has seen recent improvements, but you should note that some holes, particularly on the back nine, might not have the clearest markings. Thankfully, the dedicated disc golf community helps maintain this cherished section of the park.
Play and Sport
Trosper Park caters to all kinds of outdoor enthusiasts. Kids gravitate toward the modern playground with its collection of slides, monkey bars, rings, sliding poles, and swing sets - all thoughtfully designed to complement rather than compete with the park's natural beauty.
For those seeking more active pursuits, the tennis courts provide a space for friendly matches, while the archery range offers a focused environment for bow enthusiasts. The Trosper Archery Park maintains high standards with knowledgeable members and yearly fees that won't break the bank.
The Extras
Scattered around the grounds, you can find multiple picnic areas complete with tables and barbecue grills. These spots make perfect settings for family gatherings or simple outdoor meals under the shade of the park's stately oak trees.
The park welcomes visitors daily from 5AM to 11PM, accommodating both early birds and night owls. While restroom facilities exist, they might not always be in the best condition - something to keep in mind when planning longer visits.
With its sprawling green spaces, diverse recreational options, and natural charm, Trosper Park offers a little something for everyone in Oklahoma City, whether you're looking for a peaceful walk, a family picnic spot, or a place to perfect your golf or disc golf game.
