Heller Park
About Heller Park
Recreational Spaces
Heller Park has some lovely green spaces that are great for spreading out a blanket for a picnic or just hanging out with friends. The trees scattered throughout provide welcome shade during those hot Oklahoma days - trust us, you'll appreciate that come summer!
There's plenty of open space here, so if you're into flying kites or tossing a frisbee around, you can find more than enough room. What we really appreciate about this park is its calm vibe - it's like a little peaceful pocket right in the middle of the neighborhood.
Walking Trail
One of the best features here is definitely the walking trail that loops around the entire park. It's well-lit, which is great for early morning or evening strolls, and you'll often see locals getting their daily steps in, runners keeping pace, and people walking their four-legged friends.
The trail has several benches along the way, excellent for when you need to catch your breath or just want to sit and soak in the surroundings for a bit. It's well-maintained and makes for a convenient circuit if you're trying to track your distance.
Sports Facilities
For the active types, Heller Park offers several options. There are tennis courts and basketball courts available for when you're feeling competitive.
The soccer fields are great for organized games or just for practice. A newer addition that's been drawing crowds are the six lighted pickleball courts - they've quickly become one of the most popular spots in the park!
Family-Friendly Amenities
Got kids? The playground area offers equipment for different age groups, all set up on safety surfacing to minimize bumps and bruises. Though heads up - one of the swing sets might be due for an upgrade soon.
There's also a fun merry-go-round feature that seems to delight both the little ones and adults who want to channel their inner child. The playground sits conveniently close to the picnic areas, making it easy to keep an eye on the kids while you're unpacking lunch.
Community Gathering Areas
The picnic and barbecue areas are meant for get-togethers, with several tables and a covered shelter for when you need a break from the sun. You'll find grills available too, and the mature trees provide natural shade that makes outdoor dining so much more pleasant.
There's this charming bridge feature that adds a bit of character to the landscape - it's become something of a favorite spot for park-goers. If you're planning a family reunion or just a small gathering with friends, the park offers spaces that can accommodate groups of various sizes.
Additional Information
Dog lovers, rejoice! Heller Park is very pet-friendly, and you'll see plenty of people walking their furry companions. There are stations with bags for cleaning up after your pooch, and most visitors respect the leash rules.
Note that the park doesn't have permanent restrooms - just a portable toilet. And it's a bit unclear whether there are working drinking fountains, so it's a good idea to bring your own water, especially if you're planning to visit during the warmer months.
