About the Location
Recreational Facilities
Ponderosa Park spans 19 acres in south central Bend, Oregon, near Bear Creek Elementary School. The park features two popular skateparks which attract enthusiasts from dawn to dusk almost every day of the year.
Sports facilities include Hal Puddy Field, a ball field used for adult softball and youth soccer games during spring, summer, and fall. The field has a 50' pitching distance and multiple base distances (60', 65', 70', and 80'), though it lacks an outfield fence.
Basketball courts and a court marked for pickleball provide additional sporting options for visitors.
Family-Friendly Amenities
A dedicated playground area offers a safe and fun environment for younger visitors. During winter months, the hill next to the ball field serves as a small sledding area particularly suitable for young children.
Large lawn areas throughout the park are perfect for casual games or relaxation. A picnic shelter is available for gatherings, along with public restrooms and water fountains for visitor convenience.
For Dog Owners and Walkers
Dog owners can take advantage of the off-leash dog park area within Ponderosa Park, allowing pets to exercise and socialize freely.
The park features walking trails, including the Coyner Trail, which connects to other area neighborhoods and bike routes.
Visitor Information
Due to its popularity, especially on fall afternoons, parking can sometimes be challenging. Visitors are encouraged to consider carpooling or using alternative transportation when possible.
