About Irwin Park
Play & Recreation
Tucked away in west Eugene, Oregon, Irwin Park spreads across 7.8 acres of community green space that's popular with local residents. This park strikes a nice balance between active fun and peaceful relaxation.
Kids can burn off energy at the children's playground, which has equipment for various ages. While some of the play structures have seen better days (showing that love from countless little climbers!), they still provide plenty of entertainment for the younger crowd.
If you're into team sports, you'll discover a softball/baseball field and soccer field that host local practices and games throughout the season. There's also a basketball court waiting for your next pickup game or solo shooting session.
Natural Escapes
Need a moment of calm? The park's walking trails meander through natural areas where you can stretch your legs and clear your mind. The open layout means plenty of fresh air and room to breathe.
One of the park's best features has to be its collection of over 200 trees that create cool patches of shade and add to the overall beauty of the space. Keep your eyes peeled for the local wildlife - those little voles scurrying about make for some entertaining wildlife watching if you're patient.

Picnics & Gatherings
The picnic area is a standout spot, featuring a shelter with lighting for evening get-togethers. It's well-suited for family reunions, birthday celebrations, or just enjoying a sandwich while watching the world go by.
Smart Environmental Design
At the north end of the park, you'll find something pretty clever. The Parks department and Public Works Engineering teamed up to create an area that not only helps prevent neighborhood flooding but also improves water quality and creates habitat for wildlife.
This dual-purpose design balances practical community needs with environmental considerations.
Neighborhood Hub
Irwin Park is where west Eugene residents come to play, relax, and connect with nature without leaving the city. It's especially popular with families and their four-legged friends, who love romping in the open areas.
You'll find a large parking lot that makes visiting easy. Note that there aren't any permanent restroom facilities here currently, so plan accordingly.
No matter if you're looking to join a basketball game, read under the shade of a maple tree, or simply let the kids run wild for an hour, Irwin Park offers that perfect little escape from the everyday hustle.
