Natural Haven

A magnificent grove of Douglas fir trees creates a natural canopy overhead at Sladden Park, making it one of the more distinctive green spaces in Eugene, Oregon. The natural shade is particularly welcome during Oregon's summer heat.

Spanning 4 acres in the West region's Whiteaker Community Council area, this neighborhood greenspace is a quiet place to get out from under the sun.

Play & Recreation Spots

Kids have their own little domain here with a children's play area set in sand. Just a heads-up though - the surrounding trees drop seed pouches and other woodland souvenirs, so those little bare feet might want some protection!

For the more active crowd, there's a full-court basketball court where you can shoot hoops and a tennis court for those who prefer racquet sports.

One charming quirk of Sladden Park is its old wading pool. While it no longer holds water, this repurposed space has become an unexpected playground feature where children can run around and let their imaginations flow.

Park Perks

Need room to toss a frisbee or kick a ball around? The park offers generous open field spaces excellent for casual games and activities. The picnic areas make it easy to plan family gatherings or meet up with friends for an outdoor meal.

Sladden Park has an interesting vibe thanks to its location near the Willamette River, I-105, and the railroad - it's where urban convenience meets natural retreat.

Note that the bathrooms typically close during winter months, but water fountains remain accessible year-round.
