About the Location
A Park in the Making
Positioned in Eugene, Oregon, Santa Clara Community Park is currently a work-in-progress green space waiting to transform the neighborhood. Right now, you'll discover two open fields with casual walking paths on the north and east sides of Madison Middle School, just off Wilkes Drive.
At 35.6 acres, this expansive site is nestled in western Eugene and falls within the Santa Clara Community Organization's boundaries.
When Can You Visit?
Construction kicked off in April 2024, with the park expected to welcome its first visitors sometime in 2025. This initial phase will bring several exciting features to life, including a spacious playground where kids can let their energy loose, restroom facilities for convenience, and a dedicated parking area. The design also includes an outdoor community gathering space ideal for neighborhood events, a picnic shelter for family outings, a sprawling open lawn, and a versatile multipurpose field.
The Eugene Parks Foundation is funding a spray play feature - a welcome addition for hot summer days.
Getting Around the Park
A thoughtfully designed pedestrian bridge will connect the north and south sections, making it easy to explore the entire space. Nature lovers will appreciate the soft-surface walking trails winding through the grounds, while bike/pedestrian paths will eventually link up with the West Bank extension project, creating even more options for outdoor recreation.
What's Coming Later?
The vision for Santa Clara Community Park extends well beyond its initial opening. Future phases plan to introduce a community center and pool for year-round activities, court sports facilities for the active types, additional shelters for gatherings of all sizes, a dog park where your four-legged friends can roam free, and a community garden for those with a green thumb. These additions will expand recreational options for residents of the Santa Clara area and broader Eugene community.
How It's Happening
This park is being developed through a 2018 Parks and Recreation bond and levy approved by Eugene residents, along with Parks and Recreation System Development Charges funding the construction.
The project received a $528,000 grant from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department through their Local Government Grant Program to help fund the development.
