About the Location
Historical Background
Lincoln School City Park is a small urban park located in the Jefferson Westside neighborhood of Eugene, Oregon. Situated on 0.8 acres at the intersection of West 12th Avenue and Madison Street, the park is adjacent to the historic Lincoln School condominiums and near the Lane County Fairgrounds.
Originally the site of Lincoln Elementary School, the area was converted into a public park after the school's closure. In recent years, the park underwent a significant renovation, completed in 2024, to enhance its features and improve accessibility for the community.
Park Features
The park serves as a pocket of green space in a densely populated area, offering residents and visitors a variety of recreational opportunities. Its compact size belies the range of amenities available, making it a versatile community gathering space for people of all ages.
Following the 2024 renovation, Lincoln School City Park now features an entirely new playground, paved walking paths that loop through the space, and expanded community garden plots. The redesign also prioritized the preservation of mature trees on the site, particularly the large Bigleaf Maples that contribute to the park's character.
