About the Location

History

Washburne Park is a 4.86-acre public park located in Eugene, Oregon. The park is situated in the South University Neighborhood, bounded by East 20th Avenue, Agate Street, and East 21st Avenue.

Originally part of the Washburne Estate, it was established as a public park in 1961 following the passing of Narcissa Washburne.

Features and Landmarks

The park features gently sloping terrain with mature trees providing ample shade. A notable feature is the historic wading pool, which was part of the original Washburne Estate.

Although the pool is no longer in use, it remains as a landmark within the park. The western edge of the park is defined by a 2-foot to 4-foot tall basalt wall, with two sets of steps leading up into the park from Agate Street.

Recreation and Usage

Washburne Park serves as a popular recreational space for local residents and university students, given its proximity to the University of Oregon campus. The park's open grassy areas are suitable for picnicking, casual sports, and relaxation.

The mature tree canopy provides welcome shade during warm summer months, making it an ideal spot for outdoor gatherings and community events.
