Situated in southwest Eugene, Oregon, Mattie Reynolds Park is a neighborhood green space in the making. Currently an open field connected to the Amazon Channel, this 5-acre site near Dani Street and West 13th Avenue has a meaningful story behind it. The park honors the matriarch of one of Eugene's first Black families and is being brought to life through the 2018 Parks Bond, with completion on the horizon for 2027.
Roots That Run Deep
There's a poignant history to this land. It's located close to where the Reynolds family relocated after being displaced in the 1940s during the Ferry Street Bridge construction. In a thoughtful approach to development, Eugene officials have been collaborating with the community, including Mattie's daughters, to shape what this space will become.
