About the Location

A Slice of Eugene History

Tucked between West 19th and 21st avenues, and Washington and Lawrence streets, Washington Park spans a cozy 6.25 acres in Eugene, Oregon. The city purchased this nearby retreat back in 1940, and it's evolved quite a bit over the decades since then.

The OG Recreation Center

At the heart of the park stands its community building, built in 1951. It's kind of a big deal - this was actually Eugene's very first recreation center. Today, it continues to host everything from fitness classes to community events and group meetups. If nature calls while you're visiting, you'll find clean, accessible restrooms inside this historic building.

Cool Off in Style

Out with the old, in with the new! The park recently traded its dated wading pool for a modern spray play facility. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. between Memorial Day and Labor Day, it's an excellent spot to beat the Oregon summer heat.

The splash pad really comes alive during hot weather, when kids can run through refreshing water jets in this open space. It's a parent-approved way to cool down without the safety concerns of a traditional pool.

Get Your Game On

While the playground might not win any innovation awards with its basic slides and climbing equipment, it gets the job done for kids looking to burn some energy.

Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the variety of well-kept facilities here. There's a baseball field for the sluggers, a basketball court for pickup games, a tennis court for those channeling their inner Serena Williams, and open areas ideal for impromptu soccer matches.

Room to Breathe

One of the park's best features? Its ample open grassy areas where you can spread out a blanket, toss a frisbee, or simply soak up some vitamin D. These expansive green spaces contribute to Washington Park's relaxed atmosphere.

The Practical Stuff

You can find picnic areas scattered throughout the grounds - meant for everything from birthday celebrations to casual weekend lunches. Besides the main restrooms in the community building, there are additional portable facilities maintained around the park.

Neighborhood Hub

Washington Park is located in Eugene's South region within the Friendly Area Neighbors community. The park combines recreational facilities with peaceful green space typical of a neighborhood park.
