Park Overview

Set in southeast Eugene, Westmoreland Park sprawls across an impressive 62.8 acres of greenery. This community space straddles Amazon Creek at its northern end and extends down to West 24th Avenue. Despite being close to some of Eugene's busier streets, the park offers a relatively tranquil atmosphere with its expansive open spaces and well-kept grounds - a nice break from the urban surroundings.

Historical Background

The land has quite the story to tell. Before becoming the park we know today, the City of Eugene acquired it in 1936, but its past lives included stints as farmland, a golf course, and even a landing strip called Broomfield Aviation Field in the early 1900s. Talk about a transformation!

Over the decades, the park has evolved considerably into the diverse recreational space it is today.

Ecological Restoration

In 2014, Westmoreland underwent a significant makeover focused on its water features. The old duck pond got a complete eco-friendly redesign, transforming into a thriving wetland area. This thoughtful change has actually welcomed migrating salmon back to the stream - a win for both the local ecosystem and visitors who get to enjoy a more natural park setting.

Recreational Facilities

Sports enthusiasts, you're in luck! The park is home to baseball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts, and a recently upgraded 9-hole disc golf course. The disc golf improvements include new tee pads and a longer layout that's drawing quite a following among local players.

If you're looking for a more structured workout, check out the turf field with its surrounding track. More of a free-spirit when it comes to outdoor activities? The park has plenty of open space for impromptu games and leisurely lounging.

Trails and Paths

One of the park's best features is its network of pathways, including a looped path and dedicated off-street routes for bikers and pedestrians. The path running alongside the creek offers nice views and typically isn't overcrowded - good for a morning jog or an evening stroll with your four-legged friend.

Family Amenities
