Main City Park

Location and Access

Situated in the heart of Gresham, Oregon, Main City Park spans a generous 21.6 acres of community green space. It sits right on the Springwater Trail, making it super convenient if you're looking to hop onto this popular path or explore the charming restaurants and shops of historic downtown Gresham nearby.

The park welcomes early birds and night owls alike, with gates open from 5AM to 10PM daily. No need to worry about parking - there's plenty of free spots available. The central location works well whether you're planning a dedicated visit or using it as a starting point for a bike ride along the Springwater Corridor.

Recreational Features

If you enjoy walking or jogging, you'll appreciate the network of paths winding through the park. They're wide, level, and handicap accessible - perfect whether you're in the mood for a casual stroll or trying to get your steps in for the day.

Got kids? The playgrounds offer a safe space for little ones to burn off energy, however keep in mind the equipment can get pretty toasty during summer days without much shade. Dog parents will appreciate the small off-leash dog area with its wood chip surface where four-legged friends can run around and make some new buddies.

The well-kept lawn areas provide plenty of space for impromptu games, kicking a soccer ball around, or just lounging on a blanket. Sports enthusiasts can take advantage of two Little League baseball diamonds, a basketball court, and some truly excellent horseshoe pits - actually considered among the best in the Gresham/East Portland area if you're into that particular pastime.

Planning a gathering? The large covered picnic shelter makes a great spot for family reunions, birthday celebrations, or community get-togethers, rain or shine. If you're just looking for a quick lunch spot, you can find uncovered picnic tables scattered around the grounds as well.

Restrooms are available, but heads up - they're typically only open seasonally from April through October. You'll come across them near the baseball fields, and during the off-season, there are portable toilets available instead.

Natural Elements

Johnson Creek meanders through the park, adding a peaceful water element to your visit. Tree enthusiasts will enjoy the diverse collection of species that create an ever-changing landscape during the year. The cherry blossom trees are particularly spectacular in spring - definitely worth timing a visit to catch them in full bloom if you can.

Keep your eyes peeled for squirrels and other small wildlife that call the park home - they add a touch of natural charm to the setting.

Attractions

One of the park's hidden treasures is the Tsuru Island Japanese Garden, a serene and beautifully maintained space that offers a moment of tranquility. The garden features 13 lovely cherry trees that are lit up after dark, creating a magical atmosphere (especially during bloom season). It's an ideal spot to sit on a bench for some quiet reflection or snap some Instagram-worthy photos.

While you're exploring, don't miss the Gresham Heroes Memorial, the popular Gresham Skatepark where skaters of all ages show off their skills, and the historic Gresham Pioneer and White Birch Cemeteries adjacent to the park grounds.
