About the Location

Natural Setting

Positioned in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Trexler Memorial Park offers a breath of fresh air spanning 137.4 acres of natural beauty. It's that perfect blend of wilderness and accessibility - a little pocket of nature that somehow exists right alongside urban life.

The landscape here shifts between open meadows and shaded woodlands, creating a peaceful retreat from the everyday hustle. When life gets a bit too noisy, this park represents that quiet space where you can actually hear yourself think again.

Trail System

If you're looking to get your steps in, the park offers several options. The park features a 1.2-mile main loop in the lower section, but don't stop there - additional trails bring the total to about 3 miles of exploration. The paths are thoughtfully paved with separate lanes for walkers and cyclists, so everyone can enjoy their outdoor time without playing human dodgeball.

While the lower loop keeps things relatively flat, venture up past the statue of General Harry Trexler (the park's founder) and you'll discover yourself on a more challenging route with some inclines. The effort pays off though - the upper loop offers nice panoramic views of the park and South Mountain stretching into the distance.

One of the nice things about Trexler is its year-round accessibility. Even during winter months, the paths are kept clear, making it a reliable spot for your daily jog or bike ride regardless of season.

Wildlife and Water Features

The duck pond is both a pretty centerpiece and a small ecosystem in itself. On any given day, you might spot ducks gliding across the water, turtles sunning themselves on rocks, or frogs making their presence known. The pond adds a sense of tranquility that water features uniquely provide.

Cedar Creek meanders through the park, crossing the trail in a couple of spots and adding to the natural ambiance. Keep your eyes open and you might catch glimpses of deer, squirrels, and various birds making their homes in the park's diverse woodland, wetland, meadow, and riparian habitats.

Historic Elements

Adding character to all this natural beauty are touches of history scattered within the park. An old log cabin stands as a reminder of simpler times, while the commanding statue of General Harry Trexler on horseback offers both a historical marker and a fantastic viewpoint.

These historical features provide interesting landmarks to discover as you navigate the trails, connecting visitors to the area's past while enjoying its present beauty.

Amenities and Access

Four-legged friends are welcome here, however they'll need to stay on leash - making Trexler a popular spot for local dog owners looking to get some exercise alongside their furry companions.

You'll discover clean restroom facilities conveniently located near the main parking lot on Springhouse Road. Throughout your walk, there are plenty of benches where you can take a moment to catch your breath or simply sit and soak in the surroundings.

While there aren't designated picnic tables, the spacious grassy areas are ideal for a blanket and a packed lunch. The paved paths across the park are ADA accessible, making Trexler friendly for strollers and wheelchairs too.
