Perched atop a 12-story parking garage in Philadelphia's University City, Cira Green is an elevated park in the heart of the city. This 1.25-acre space offers panoramic views of Philly's skyline and the winding Schuylkill River below.

Since opening in 2015, this green space has become an example of elevated urban design - literally.

Nature Meets Architecture

Cira Green sits like a garden retreat above the city. The landscape blends manicured lawns with meadows and gardens featuring native plants that add pops of color against the concrete jungle backdrop.

An interesting feature of the park is its dual-purpose design. The space incorporates green roof and blue roof technologies that capture rainwater, helping to reduce pressure on Philly's sewer system during downpours. It combines sustainability with public space functionality.

What You'll Find Up There

Rather than creating a flat, boring space, the designers gave Cira Green character through terraced seating areas and gently sloping lawns that create natural gathering spots. Wide paths invite you to stroll and take in different angles of the stunning surroundings.

Dog parents will appreciate the small dog park where four-legged friends can run free in an enclosed area. And yes, there are clean restrooms available near the main hill area - a practical detail that makes longer visits much more comfortable.

When hunger strikes, claim one of the covered picnic areas with tables and chairs for a meal with a view. During warmer months, challenge friends to outdoor games like cornhole or giant Connect Four scattered throughout the space.

Cira Green isn't just about the views - it's a hub of activity. The park regularly hosts outdoor movie screenings on its large screen, making for unforgettable summer evenings under the stars. Feeling peckish? The onsite Sunset Social café serves up satisfying burgers, sandwiches, and drinks (including alcoholic options). You're welcome to bring your own picnic to enjoy on the grass, but note that outside alcohol isn't permitted.

You can access this urban oasis year-round, with the park open from 7AM to 10PM weekdays (extending to 11PM Fridays and Saturdays) and 7AM to 9PM Sundays.
