Sister Cities Park

Location and History

Sister Cities Park is a 1.3-acre urban green space located at the intersection of 18th Street and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Originally dedicated in 1976, the park was redesigned and reopened in 2012 to create a more inviting and functional public space.

Natural Design Elements

The park's design draws inspiration from the Wissahickon Valley, incorporating natural elements like rocks, water, and native plants.

At the heart of the park is a fountain with 10 spouts, each representing one of Philadelphia's sister cities. This interactive water feature allows visitors to cool off on hot days and serves as a focal point for the space.

Children's Area

A central feature is the Children's Discovery Garden, which includes a winding stream and pond where children can play and sail toy boats.

The garden is designed to mimic the topography of the Wissahickon, with a small hill and climbing areas for kids to explore.

Amenities and Views

The park features a café and visitor center housed in a modern pavilion with a green roof, which helps reduce stormwater runoff and moderate temperatures.
