Stretching along the southern bank of the river in Steel City, it's a peaceful retreat where you can escape the city buzz while still being right in the middle of it all.

Hit the Trails

The park connects to the larger Three Rivers Heritage Trail network that winds through Pittsburgh's riverfront areas. The paved paths here are perfect whether you're looking to break a sweat or just take a leisurely stroll by the water. We've found these trails to be equally welcoming to serious joggers, casual cyclists, and anyone who just wants to wander along the water's edge taking in the scenery.

Kick Back and Relax

With plenty of green space, Southside Riverfront Park makes an ideal spot to throw down a blanket for a picnic or simply lie back and watch the clouds roll by. You can spend hours here watching boats cruise along the Monongahela or just soaking in the natural surroundings. There are benches scattered across the park, but they can fill up quickly on nice days, so coming early might be your best bet.

Make a Splash

One of the park's standout features is its public boat launch and marina, making it a favorite starting point for kayakers and canoeists ready to explore Pittsburgh from the water. If you're bringing your own watercraft, there's parking available for vehicles with trailers, though it tends to get crowded during summer weekends.

A Birdwatcher's Delight

The park is teeming with wildlife, especially birds. Beyond the usual ducks, geese, and seagulls that hang around the riverbank, you might spot some less common species if you bring your binoculars. It's a surprisingly good spot for nature photography, with the contrast of wild birds against the urban backdrop creating some unique photo opportunities.

The Practical Stuff

The park offers portable toilets, however note that these are typically only available during warmer months. Overall, the park is well-kept, giving you a clean, pleasant environment for your outdoor adventures.
