About Viscolosi Park

A Pocket of Green in the City

Tucked away at the end of Chalkstone Avenue near Rowley Street, Viscolosi Park is a modest but charming green space that brings a breath of fresh air to this Providence neighborhood. While it may not be the largest park in Rhode Island's capital, there's plenty of actual grass to run around on or just stretch out and watch the clouds drift by.

Fresh Look for 2023

If you haven't visited recently, you're in for a pleasant surprise. The park underwent significant renovations in Summer 2023, part of Providence's efforts to spruce up public spaces throughout the city. These changes have really transformed Viscolosi into a more inviting spot, especially if you've got little ones in tow.

Kid-Friendly Play Zone

The playground area is definitely the highlight for families with younger kids, particularly those under 8. The setup includes two slides, various climbing equipment, and swings - two standard ones plus a super popular round hammock-type swing that's usually the first thing kids race toward.

What makes this playground stand out is an AstroTurf-covered section that has become an impromptu sliding hill for enthusiastic youngsters. The decorative boulders scattered throughout aren't just for show - they've become part of the adventure for imaginative climbers.

Something for Everyone

Need a spot for lunch or an afternoon snack? Several picnic tables are available around the park. And parents or fitness enthusiasts can get in a quick workout at the dedicated exercise area, complete with a pull-up bar, dip bench, and leg raise platform among other equipment.

Bring your four-legged friends along too - the park is dog-friendly, however you'll want to keep them leashed and away from the playground zones.

Neighborhood Hub

Viscolosi isn't about elaborate facilities or vast expanses - it's a place where neighbors often gather. This modest green space adds a nice touch to the neighborhood.

The park really comes alive in the evenings, when families with toddlers and young children gather, creating a lively but relaxed atmosphere as the day winds down.
