Access and Fees

Just be aware that your wallet will need to make an appearance from April through Labor Day. During these busier months, the park uses an online reservation system to keep things from getting too crowded. Entry will set you back $5 per vehicle (cash only), with different arrangements if you're bringing a boat trailer.
Recreational Facilities
The park has a The park's boat launch ramp has multiple lanes so you won't be stuck in a lengthy queue waiting to hit the water. If you're piloting a motorboat, zipping around on a jet ski, or taking a more leisurely approach with a kayak or paddleboard, you'll find access to Lake Murray straightforward. If fishing is more your style, you can cast a line from the dedicated fishing docks. You might have to share the space during busy periods.
Not interested in getting wet? The park offers several picnic facilities with tables scattered throughout, some bathed in sunshine and others nestled in shady spots. Many come equipped with charcoal grills (just remember to bring your own supplies). Some tables are sheltered, offering protection if the weather decides not to cooperate.
The Dam Walkway
One of the park's standout features is the 1.7-mile pedestrian walkway stretching across the dam, connecting the north and south recreational areas. This path works well for a walk, jog, or simply taking in the panoramic views of Lake Murray. The views are especially nice at sunrise and sunset when the light reflects on the water's surface. If you're up for it, the complete round trip from parking lot to parking lot covers about 3 miles.
A word of caution: the walkway offers no shade, so on sunny days, don't forget sunscreen and water. Also, since the path runs alongside the highway, you'll have the constant soundtrack of passing traffic.
Park Amenities
You'll discover public restrooms conveniently located near the boat launch and picnic areas. There's plenty of parking available, but spots can disappear quickly on summer weekends and around sunset when the lake views are at their most captivating.
Nature lovers might spot turtles sunning themselves, cranes wading in the shallows, and various other lake creatures going about their day. The grounds are clean and well-maintained, suitable for family outings, whether for a quick visit or a full day.
Park Rules
To keep everyone happy and safe, a few rules are in place. Leave the alcoholic beverages at home as they're not allowed within park boundaries. Your four-legged friends are welcome in most areas, but they must stay leashed at all times.
