Recreational Amenities

Mays Park offers a variety of outdoor amenities for visitors to enjoy. The park features several sports facilities, including two tennis courts and two half basketball courts, providing opportunities for active recreation.

For families with children, there is a playground area with swings and play equipment where kids can play and socialize. The park also includes a picnic pavilion with tables that can accommodate approximately 50 people, making it a suitable spot for community gatherings and outdoor meals.

Neighborhood Character

Mays Park is known as a quiet, peaceful neighborhood park that appeals to visitors of all ages. Its intimate size creates a nostalgic atmosphere that has made it a generational destination, with many residents who enjoyed the park as children now bringing their own families.

The park is situated in a tranquil residential area and is conveniently located near reputable restaurants. While small in size, it functions as an important community gathering space for the surrounding neighborhood.

Park Facilities

The park has limited parking available next to the tennis courts, with space for approximately 7-8 vehicles. Currently, the park has limited wheelchair accessibility, with access primarily over hills, grass, and tree roots.

A splash pad is available in the park, though visitors need to contact the Columbia Parks Department to have it activated. The park is generally well-maintained and clean, offering a safe environment for recreation.

Revitalization Project

The park is currently undergoing a revitalization project led by the Columbia Parks & Recreation Department. This project aims to create a more inclusive, green, and accessible park space for the community.

The plans include expanding walking trails, adding new playground components, and incorporating improvements to the existing splash pad. The project also focuses on preserving many of the existing trees while selectively removing others to create more open green space.

Upcoming Improvements

As part of the revitalization efforts, the park will see several enhancements to its facilities and landscape. These include the addition of a rain garden to manage stormwater and landscaping improvements with native plantings.

One tennis court will be converted into a multiuse pickleball/tennis court. These changes are designed to blend natural beauty with recreational amenities, enhancing the park's appeal and functionality for local residents.
