About Mays Park
Recreational Amenities
Tucked away in Columbia, Mays Park offers a lovely array of outdoor amenities that cater to active souls and relaxation seekers alike. You'll discover two tennis courts and two half basketball courts where you can work up a sweat or challenge friends to a friendly match.
If you're bringing the little ones along, they'll love the playground area complete with swings and play equipment - excellent for burning off energy and making new friends. Need a spot for a family gathering? The picnic pavilion with tables can host around 50 people, making it just right for birthday celebrations or casual weekend get-togethers.
Neighborhood Character
There's something special about Mays Park - it's that quiet, peaceful neighborhood spot that somehow appeals to everyone. Its cozy size lends it a nostalgic charm that spans generations. It's heartwarming to see adults who once played here as kids now pushing their own children on the same swings.
Located in a tranquil residential area, the park sits conveniently close to some good eating spots. Though modest in size, it's a nice place where neighbors connect and families spend time together.
Park Facilities
Parking is limited but adequate, with space for about 7-8 cars next to the tennis courts. It's worth noting that wheelchair accessibility is currently restricted, with most access routes involving hills, grass, and tree roots.
A refreshing splash pad is available during warmer months, but you'll need to contact the Columbia Parks Department to have it turned on. Overall, the park is well-kept and clean, providing a safe space for everyone to enjoy.
Revitalization Project
Exciting changes are underway at Mays Park, thanks to the Columbia Parks & Recreation Department. Their revitalization project will update the park with features designed to be more inclusive, green, and accessible.
The plans look promising - expanded walking trails, new playground equipment, and improvements to the existing splash pad. We appreciate that they're being thoughtful about the greenery, preserving many existing trees while selectively removing others to create more open space for activities.
Upcoming Improvements
The revitalization will bring several thoughtful enhancements to both the facilities and landscape. A new rain garden will help manage stormwater naturally, while native plantings will boost the park's ecological value and visual appeal.
Tennis players and pickleball enthusiasts will be pleased to know that one tennis court will be converted into a multipurpose pickleball/tennis court. These changes will add both natural features and new recreational options to the park.
