Trenholm Park
About Trenholm Park
A Slice of Columbia's Recreational History
Found in Columbia, South Carolina, Trenholm Park spans 10.7 acres of community-focused recreation space. Opened back in 1968, this park holds a special place in local history as the first park ever established by the Richland County Recreation Commission.
Trenholm Park offers programs for people across all age groups and abilities. The park has a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere where locals often spend their time.
Step Inside
The main recreation building is home to several indoor treasures. You'll come across a spacious gymnasium excellent for beating the South Carolina heat while staying active, a lively game room for some friendly competition, and a versatile club room that hosts community gatherings year-round.
The gym itself is kept in good shape and regularly buzzes with activity, particularly during youth basketball season. And yes, there are indoor restrooms available - always a practical plus for any park visit.
Sports Central
Tennis, anyone? The park features six lighted tennis courts that let you keep your game going even after sunset. Fair warning though - some courts might be showing their age and could use a little TLC.
Sports fields abound for team athletics. Young baseball enthusiasts can enjoy the lighted Little League baseball field, while softball players have their own dedicated lighted Little League softball field. There's also a multipurpose football/soccer field that adapts to whatever game is in season.
Family Fun Zone
Kids between 5-12 years old can burn off energy at the park's playground area, featuring well-maintained equipment that passes the parent safety check. Just remember to bring sun protection - the play area doesn't offer much shade, which can make for some toasty playdates during Columbia's warmer months.
When summer hits full force, the park's swimming pool becomes a neighborhood favorite. It's kept clean and inviting, and recent renovations to the pool house have added several fresh shower facilities that elevate the whole experience.
Packing a lunch? The picnic facilities include a covered shelter and tables where you can enjoy an outdoor meal. Having a picnic in the park can be a nice change of pace.
Bring Your Four-Legged Friends
Dog owners, rejoice! Your leashed companions are welcome within the park grounds, making this an excellent spot for those daily walks when both you and your pup need some fresh air.
With its convenient location and variety of amenities, Trenholm Park continues to be a go-to destination for Columbia residents looking for a little recreation without venturing far from home.
