Dunham Park
About Dunham Park
Recreational Facilities
Dunham Park covers a large area with a variety of facilities. Sports enthusiasts will find multiple athletic fields throughout much of the park.
The softball fields are frequently used by local leagues and tournaments. Baseball fans haven't been forgotten either - you'll come across a senior baseball field for the more experienced players and several junior baseball fields where younger sluggers can develop their skills.
If baseball isn't your thing, no worries. The park houses a well-maintained basketball court and a sand volleyball court for when you're in the mood to spike or shoot hoops. There's also plenty of open green space that's excellent for impromptu soccer games or just tossing a frisbee around.
Family Amenities
The playground is a popular spot where children can climb, slide, and play. When hunger strikes, head to one of the picnic shelters - they're great for family gatherings or just enjoying a simple outdoor meal. Just keep in mind that some areas of the park don't offer much shade, so you might want to bring sun protection on bright days.
Clean restrooms are available across the grounds - always a relief when spending hours outdoors. And don't worry about parking; there's plenty of it, which is especially handy when you're attending one of the many sporting events that take place here.
Trails and Nature
Dunham Park isn't all about organized sports - it's also a fantastic place to connect with nature and enjoy some peaceful outdoor time. The park links directly to Sioux Falls' bike path system, opening up miles of exploration possibilities.
The well-maintained paved trails wind alongside a creek crossed by at least six bridges. These paths are wonderfully wide, giving walkers and cyclists plenty of room to share the space comfortably.
In recent years, the park has expanded its offerings to include approximately 1.7 miles of singletrack trails that meander through natural terrain. These singletrack bike trails might be relatively new additions, but they've quickly become favorites among mountain biking enthusiasts and trail runners looking for a bit more challenge.
Wildlife and Atmosphere
Keep your eyes peeled as you explore - you might spot deer or beavers going about their day. There's something special about sharing space with local wildlife while still being within city limits.
The park has a notably tranquil atmosphere, especially during weekdays. Many find it cleaner and more peaceful than other parks in the area.
Don't miss the Dan Ferris Memorial Bridge - it's not just a practical crossing but a meaningful landmark that adds character to this cherished community space.
