About the Location

Natural Setting

Sertoma Park is a sprawling 100-acre recreation area located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The park is situated in an old oxbow of the Big Sioux River, providing a scenic natural setting.

Planning for the park began in 1986 as a joint effort between the Sioux Falls Sertoma Club and the Sioux Falls Parks and Recreation Department. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on April 25, 1989.

Recreational Amenities

The park features extensive walking and biking trails that connect to the city's larger trail system. Multiple playgrounds cater to children of different age groups, offering a variety of play structures and equipment.

A large central pavilion serves as a focal point for gatherings and events. The park also includes picnic areas with tables and grills, allowing visitors to enjoy meals in the outdoors.

Special Attractions

Sertoma Park is home to several notable attractions. The Outdoor Campus, operated by the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department, offers educational programs on outdoor skills and conservation.

The Butterfly House & Aquarium, located within the park, provides visitors with the opportunity to observe butterflies and marine life up close. Additionally, the park features a Japanese Garden, which was a gift from Sioux Falls' sister city, Potsdam, Germany.
