About Miller Park in Chattanooga
Miller Park is a 1.25-acre urban park located in the heart of downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee. The park underwent a major renovation in 2018 as part of a $10.6 million redevelopment project aimed at revitalizing Chattanooga's city center.
The redesigned park features an open central lawn area surrounded by paved plazas and walkways. At one end of the park is the EPB Community Stage, a covered pavilion that serves as a venue for concerts, movies, and community events. The stage is equipped with underground internet and electrical connections to support performances and productions.
Miller Park incorporates elements that reflect Chattanooga's natural landscape and geology. Limestone and sandstone are used in rock formations throughout the park, paying homage to the mountainous topography of the region. The park also includes stormwater management features and a strategically positioned soil cell system to support healthy tree growth in the urban environment.
As part of Chattanooga's Innovation District, Miller Park was designed to be a flexible, multi-use space that can accommodate a variety of cultural and civic events. The park hosts numerous activities throughout the year, including concerts, festivals, and gatherings. Its central location near City Hall and proximity to restaurants and businesses makes it a popular spot for downtown workers and visitors.
The renovation elevated the entire park to street level, improving its connection to the surrounding urban fabric. This design approach aimed to create a more unified civic space and encourage pedestrian traffic throughout the area. The park now blends seamlessly with the adjacent Miller Plaza, enhancing the overall public space in downtown Chattanooga.
