About Dixon Park
A Touch of Clarksville History
Named after Nace and Nannie Dixon, this downtown park carries a rich historical significance. Back in the early 1900s, the Dixons weren't just funeral home operators - they were community pillars. Nace even served as an alderman in Clarksville's ninth ward, representing a predominantly African-American constituency and campaigning to rid the city of saloons. The park now sits on land connected to their original property, maintaining a connection to this local historical legacy.
Finding Your Way
You'll discover Dixon Park nestled in downtown Clarksville at 117 South 10th Street, right beside the historic L&N Train Station. Its central location makes it a convenient spot whether you're a local or just passing through.
Play Areas for the Little Ones
Got kids of different ages? No problem. The park features two distinct playground sections that were thoughtfully installed in December 2023. The smaller area has equipment fantastic for the little ones, while older kids can challenge themselves on more complex climbing structures nearby. It's genuinely refreshing to see a playground design that considers different developmental stages instead of a one-size-fits-all approach.
Take a Break
Between the two play areas sits a welcoming pavilion complete with benches and tables - meant for enjoying a packed lunch or simply taking a breather while the kids play. Need a restroom break? Facilities are available in this central area, making it convenient to spend a few hours at the park.
For those with energy to burn, the basketball court offers a great space to shoot some hoops. It's pretty popular with local players and adds another dimension to what the park offers beyond just playgrounds.
Community Space
Dixon Park functions as a community gathering place where local events are often held. The mix of active recreation spaces and quieter green areas provides options for different preferences, whether you want to be active or simply relax with a book under a tree.
Neighborhood Renaissance
Located in the Brandon Hills legacy neighborhood, Dixon Park provides leisure space for the community. The recent playground upgrades were funded through Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) money, showing how public spaces can play a key role in neighborhood revitalization efforts. It's nice to see resources being directed toward creating quality outdoor spaces that everyone can enjoy.
