About Dixon Park in Clarksville
Dixon Park is a public recreational area located at 117 South 10th Street in Clarksville, Tennessee. The park is situated in the downtown area, next to the historic L&N Train Station, making it easily accessible to local residents and visitors.
The park is named after Nace and Nannie Dixon, who owned and operated an African-American funeral home in the early 20th century. Nace Dixon was also an alderman in Clarksville's ninth ward, which was predominantly made up of African-American voters. He worked to eliminate saloons in the city, and the Dixons owned property connected to the current park location.
In recent years, Dixon Park has undergone significant improvements. In December 2024, two new playgrounds were installed, featuring separate areas for younger children and older, school-age kids. These playgrounds were designed with age-appropriate equipment to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors.
The park serves as a community gathering space, hosting various events and activities throughout the year. It offers a blend of recreational facilities and green spaces, providing opportunities for both active play and relaxation.
Dixon Park is part of ongoing efforts to revitalize the Brandon Hills legacy neighborhood. The recent enhancements, including the new playgrounds, were made possible through Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding, demonstrating the city's commitment to improving public spaces and enhancing the quality of life for residents.
