About the Location
River Retreat
Tucked away in Clarksville, Tennessee, Billy Dunlop Park spans 30 acres of natural beauty along the banks of the Red River. This hidden gem offers a peaceful escape from the everyday hustle, well-suited for anyone looking to reconnect with nature without venturing too far from town.
A winding walking trail guides you through shaded woodlands and alongside the gently flowing river. The charming walking bridge that crosses over a bubbling creek offers lovely views of the surrounding landscape. Just a heads up - some trail areas beyond the bridge aren't accessible right now, so plan your exploration accordingly.
Splash and Play
When summer temperatures soar, the Red River becomes a popular spot here. The water is accessible via several easy entry points, making it a wonderful spot to cool off when the Tennessee heat gets unbearable.
If sitting on the shore isn't your style, grab your fishing gear or kayak and take advantage of the river access points. During the warmer months, you can even rent tubes and lazily float downstream - an experience that's become something of a local summer tradition.
Just remember to be careful in the water, especially if you've got kids or four-legged friends along for the adventure. The current can pick up in certain spots, so it's wise to bring life vests, particularly for younger swimmers.
Get Moving
Beyond the water, Billy Dunlop offers plenty of space to burn off energy. The recently upgraded playground features equipment good for children between 5-12 years old, giving the little ones their own space to climb and explore.
If you're feeling competitive, the basketball court awaits, or simply claim a patch of the open field for frisbee, kite flying, or a relaxing picnic on a sunny afternoon.
Gather Round
At the heart of the park stands a spacious pavilion with a stage - an ideal spot for everything from family reunions to community events. It's available to rent and can comfortably fit gatherings of up to 100 people.
Scattered across the grounds, you'll find picnic tables and BBQ grills great for a cookout. The main pavilion area includes restrooms, while portable toilets supplement these facilities during busier times.
Your leashed dogs are welcome to join the fun, with waste stations conveniently placed around the park to keep the grounds clean and enjoyable for everyone.
Plan Your Visit
The park welcomes visitors daily from 6:30AM to 6:30PM, with easy access off Needmore Road.
One tip: parking can fill up quickly, especially on weekends and summer days when everyone has the same idea. Try to arrive early, and make sure to use designated parking areas only unless you're in the mood for a parking ticket souvenir.
The peaceful river views and occasional visits from local wildlife (keep an eye out for deer!) make this park a nice retreat - whether you're looking for active adventure or just a quiet moment by the water.
