About the Location
Trail System Overview
Situated in the heart of Clarksville, Tennessee, the North Ford Mountain Bike Trails offers a quiet retreat for cycling enthusiasts. Nestled between the Clarksville Greenway and residential areas along Providence Boulevard, this 90-acre park has become a favorite spot for local riders looking for some off-road adventure.
Currently, the park offers about 3.5 miles of bike-specific trails, with exciting plans to expand to 8-9 miles in the future. What makes these trails special is their thoughtful mix of hand-built and machine-built paths that work with the natural landscape rather than against it.
Trail Features and Design
The trails feature a variety of interesting elements. You'll find yourself navigating bench-cut paths, launching off wooden jumps, tackling drops, maneuvering through rock gardens, and leaning into tight turns that keep you engaged throughout your ride.
Designed primarily with intermediate riders in mind, the trails still offer plenty for more seasoned cyclists to enjoy. With an average grade of 2% and maxing out at 9%, the terrain provides just enough challenge without being overwhelming. The Advanced Loop is particularly noteworthy, using the natural landscape to create a riding experience that really tests your trail reading abilities and bike handling skills.
Management and Trail Direction
The park owes its well-maintained condition to dedicated volunteers from the Clarksville Area Mountain Biking Alliance (CAMBA TN), who work hand in hand with the Clarksville Parks and Recreation Department.
One unique aspect is the directional nature of the trails, which actually changes depending on the day of the week. This thoughtful touch helps keep things fresh for regular riders who might otherwise get too familiar with the routes.
Special Areas
If you're bringing along younger riders, they'll love the "Gnome Zone" - a specially designed area where kids can practice on miniature versions of the features found across the park.
For those looking for a bit of rhythm and flow, check out the "Boots 'n' Cats" run. This double-wide, straight track features rolling hills that gradually increase in size, well-suited for working on your timing and getting some air if you're feeling adventurous.
Visitor Information
You'll come across convenient parking at the trailhead on North Ford Street. Note that this park is dedicated exclusively to mountain biking - hiking, horseback riding, and motorized vehicles aren't permitted on the trails, ensuring the paths stay in good condition for cyclists.
