Danny Mayfield Park is a neighborhood park located in the Mechanicsville area of Knoxville, Tennessee. The park opened in 2004 as part of the revitalization efforts in the historic Mechanicsville neighborhood. Situated on 1.5 acres in the College Street area, the park serves as a community gathering space and recreational area for local residents.
The park is named after Danny Mayfield, a former Knoxville City Councilman who represented the 6th District from 1998 to 2001. Mayfield, an alumnus of Knoxville College, was known for his community leadership and co-founded the urban ministry Tribe One. He passed away from bone cancer in 2001, and the park was named in his honor.
Danny Mayfield Park features an outdoor art gallery displaying various African art sculptures for public viewing. The park's design incorporates elements that make it useful for both recreation and education. It includes an outdoor classroom that is often utilized by students from nearby Maynard Elementary School and Knoxville College.
