About Mississippi Greenbelt Park in Memphis
Greenbelt Park is a scenic urban park located on Mud Island in Memphis, Tennessee. Spanning over a mile in length, this park serves as a natural flood plain that changes with the seasons. The park is divided into two sections: Upper Greenbelt Park and Lower Greenbelt Park.
Upper Greenbelt Park features a paved pathway on the east side, ideal for bikers and those pushing strollers. This section of the park remains accessible year-round, offering visitors consistent recreational opportunities.
Lower Greenbelt Park, on the other hand, is subject to seasonal flooding. It is typically submerged from late winter to early spring due to its proximity to the Mississippi River. When accessible, this area provides unpaved trails for running and walking, as well as picnic spots for visitors to enjoy.
The park offers stunning views of the Mississippi River and serves as a popular spot for bird watching, especially during migration seasons. Visitors may spot a variety of species, including scoters, Bufflehead, unusual gulls and terns, and even Peregrine Falcons.
Greenbelt Park is open daily, with hours varying seasonally. From March to October, the park is open from 6 am to 8 pm, while from November to February, it closes earlier at 6 pm.
