About the Location
A Tiny Urban Oasis
BEPI Park is known as one of Austin's smallest parks. Situated at the intersection of Baylor Street, Enfield Road, and Parkway, this unique green space occupies a tiny traffic median measuring approximately 50 square feet.
The park was originally created by the City of Austin as a traffic safety measure to improve pedestrian crossing at the intersection.
Community Caretaking
This quirky local attraction evolved thanks to the efforts of nearby resident Gary Schumann, who took on the role of the park's unofficial caretaker.
BEPI Park changes its appearance regularly, with Schumann decorating it according to different themes throughout the year. Past iterations have included a mini-golf course, a Squid Game-inspired holiday display, a community vegetable garden, and even a simulated active volcano.
Growing Notoriety
In March 2024, BEPI Park gained additional attention when Schumann installed a 12-foot-tall "Traffic Troll" sculpture made from recycled materials. This whimsical addition was created in response to the installation of a larger troll sculpture in nearby Pease Park.
Despite its small size, BEPI Park has become a symbol of community creativity and engagement in West Austin, showcasing how even the tiniest spaces can be transformed into sources of joy and interest for the neighborhood.
