History and Location
Givens District Park is a 40-acre public park located in East Austin, Texas. Acquired by the City of Austin in 1957, the park was named in honor of Dr. Everett H. Givens, a dentist, World War I veteran, and respected civic leader, in 1962.
The park features Tannehill Creek, which runs north to south through the entire area, providing water for many large shade trees along its banks.
Recreation Center
Since 1979, the park has been home to a recreation center that serves the vibrant and historic community of East Austin.
The recreation center provides programming for toddlers, youth, teens, and adults, as well as special holiday events for the community.
Amenities and Facilities
Givens District Park offers a variety of recreational facilities and amenities for visitors of all ages. The park includes both indoor and outdoor spaces for sports, leisure activities, and community gatherings.
Recent Improvements
In recent years, the park has undergone improvements as part of a vision plan approved in January 2019. These updates include renovations to the recreation center and aquatic facility, aiming to enhance the park's offerings and accessibility for the local community.
